Chantelle Muteswa

Ms Chantelle Muteswa is the founder of Ibwe Imbokodo Women’s Trust. She is a holder of a BA Double Major in Communications Media Studies and International Studies and an Honours Degree in International Relations. A passion that stems from a tender age. At the age of 16, Ms Muteswa represented her country in the United States of America as a Rotary Exchange Student. During her stay there, she spoke alot about the effects of social ills that women and children face, as well as their rights. Her focus was on domestic violence and how this predominantly affects both women and children in society. She visited a few womens shelters and realized how these had proper structures in place and served as a safe haven as opposed to some institutions back home. The importance of structure, the creation of a better environment that is conducive for rehabilitation at these shelter can ultimately affect a woman’s decision to be able to walk away from abusive situations. It is at this point that Miss Muteswa realized what her life purpose was and how she could be an instrument in assisting abused women and children. Ms Muteswa too has a story to share as she is an overcomer of abuse and as an advocate for women and children’s rights, she has become a voice for the marginalized. She is an avid believer of women empowerment and believes that “if you empower a woman, you empower a nation”.
